Insulation resistance test
The electrical properties of components can change owing to the climatic influences or wrong dimensioning. This can even result in failure of the device – and endanger humans.
The insulation resistance test helps to evaluate the influences of the climate or wrong dimensioning on the components. For this purpose, the insulation resistances of live parts are measured against the enclosure parts made of metal or plastics. The insulation resistance must not fall short of the megohm range required by the standard. Whether the test is performed before or after the climatic test can vary depending on the testing standard.
Examples of the standards and methods in this domain are:
- IACS E10 Test No. 9 | Insulation resistance
- DIN EN 50155 § 12.2.9.1 | Insulation measurement
- DNV-CG-0339 Sec. 12
- EN 60598-1 section 10.2.1
