Treo celebrates a running debut: together with 27 other teams, we met up at the sports grounds of Schulzentrum Süd in Eckernförde to slip into our running shoes and support people suffering from cancer. Kevin Wandler had put together a strong team with nine runners for Treo’s debut at this charity event. Kitted out in brand-new logo shirts and with plenty of training under our belts, our team stepped up to the starting line, ran the distance and managed to raise €500 for cancer patients!
At the „Lauf ins Leben“ run it’s not about speed; what counts are stamina, endurance and running as many laps as possible. The more laps a team runs, the more donations they raise for the cancer charity. After 22 hours, we had run 250 rounds – a staggering 100 kilometres. Once all competitors had passed the finishing line on Sunday, the total amount was added up. Thanks to this fundraising event, €40,000 in donations were raised for the charity.
The cancer charity Schleswig-Holsteinische Krebsgesellschaft e.V. aims to improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their families. Since 2002, among many other activities, the charity has organised the fundraising run “Lauf ins Leben, where the team members take it turn to run laps of the 400-metre track over a period of 22 hours. On behalf of the Treo team, Hanno Frömming said: “We are deeply impressed by the dedication and the work of the charity. They provide valuable aid for cancer patients and their families, and by participating we want to show our solidarity with all those affected by cancer.”
At the opening of the 19th edition of the “Lauf ins Leben”, Schleswig-Holstein’s Minister of Health Kerstin von der Decken paid tribute to the work of the cancer charity and thanked all participants for their commitment. Despite the intense heat, the runners displayed real stamina and cheerfully ran lap after lap. The highlight on the evening of the first day was a torchlight march in memory of those who are or have been affected by the disease, past hundreds of candles that were lit along the running track at sunset.
“We are intensely proud to have been part of this fantastic event and we thank the organisers and all participants for their extraordinary commitment. This has been a very special event. We look forward to competing again next year”, said Hanno Frömming.
