DIN EN IEC 61010-1: Electrical equipment for measurement, control, and laboratory use
DIN EN IEC 61010-1 defines safety requirements for electrical equipment for measurement, control and laboratory use and for auxiliary equipment devices for use with such equipment.
The standard specifies various protective measures to protect users from electrical, mechanical, and other potential hazards. These include appropriate insulation, protection against contact and electric shock, as well as the heat resistance of a device. DIN EN IEC 61010-1 defines various tests and test methods to ensure that the devices fulfil the safety requirements.
Manufacturers must ensure the safe operation of their devices
Manufacturers must carry out a risk assessment to identify and evaluate potential hazards associated with the use of their equipment. They must also label devices in accordance with the requirements of the standard to inform users of potential hazards and provide instructions for safe use and maintenance. At the same time, they must ensure that their products are traceable so that action can be taken in the event of safety problems. DIN EN IEC 61010-1 also specifies requirements for the technical documentation that manufacturers must provide. This includes, for example, manuals, safety, and installation instructions.
The devices that must be tested in accordance with DIN EN IEC 61010-1 include:
- Digital multimeters
- Oscilloscopes and spectrum analysers
- Network analysers
- Signal and function generators
- Laboratory power supplies and programmable power supplies
- Switching power supplies
- Electronic loads
- High voltage testers
- Data loggers
- Laboratory measuring devices of all kinds e.g.
- Temperature measuring devices (e.g. thermometers)
- Humidity measuring devices
- Pressure measuring devices (e.g. barometers)
- Measuring devices for electrical impedance
- Precision measuring instruments
- …
