IP 20: Test for protection against the ingress of foreign objects
Treo conducts IP 20 testing on electrical equipment and components to ensure they are protected against the ingress of foreign objects.
Devices in this protection class are not dust and water resistant
The objects we test in our laboratory for compliance with protection class IP 20 are mainly used indoors, where they are not directly exposed to weather and extreme weather conditions or humidity. The components of this protection class are not protected against the ingress of water, splash water, spray water or fine dust, which often occurs outdoors.
A product with an IP code with the digits 2 and 0 is protected against contact with solid foreign bodies with a diameter of ≥ 12 mm (live components cannot be touched with the finger). However, it is not protected against water.
Lamps with IP 20 are only suitable for use indoors
In dry rooms, protection against water is of secondary importance. That is why lamps with IP 20, which do not offer any protection against potential water ingress, can be used in these rooms. However, this is not the case in bathrooms, where moisture and water splashes are to be expected. Devices used in these rooms require a higher IP protection class.
